Reward independent reading with an opportunity for your students to imagine and create projects of their own devising! This semester-long independent reading project gives students the freedom to explore the authors and genres of their choice while providing a framework that requires them to think critically about who they are both as readers and as doers of projects. With a focus on honing active reading skills, students select and track their independent reading, and at the end of the semester, they shift into project-creation mode. The project supports the development of vital executive functioning skills through brainstorming, detailed strategic planning, daily self-evaluation of progress, and the opportunity to get, give, and learn from feedback. This project is leveled for grades 6-12.
