Wondering how to make practicing presentation skills even more fun? This semester-long independent reading project culminates in each student writing and performing their own TED Talk-style presentation. During the first stage of the project, students experience the freedom to explore the authors and genres of their choice while providing a framework that requires them to think critically about who they are both as readers and as doers of projects. With a focus on honing active reading skills, students select and track their independent reading. At the end of the semester, they consider model TED Talks and, using a scripted format, create their own READ Talk about one of the books they read and the impact that book had on their thinking. This project is leveled for grades 6-12.
